Privacy Policy
QPdf is a local-first PDF reader and editor. Your documents stay on your device.
No sign-up, no user profile and no tracking identifier.
QPdf does not send the PDFs you open to us or to anyone else.
Nothing measures you, profiles you, or reports back.
The short version
QPdf has no account, no advertising SDK and no analytics SDK. It does not upload the PDFs you open, and it does not collect personal information about you.
01 Information we collect
None. QPdf does not collect, transmit or sell personal information. There is no sign-up, no user profile and no tracking identifier. We cannot see which documents you open, what they contain, or how you use the app.
02 How your documents are handled
Opening, rendering, searching, annotating, editing, form filling, signing, page operations, scanning and optical character recognition (OCR) all run entirely on your device. Document content is never sent to us or to any third party.
03 When QPdf uses the network
QPdf makes one kind of outbound request, and only if you choose to use OCR:
- OCR model download. The first time you run “Make text searchable (OCR)”, QPdf downloads a text-recognition model (about 21 MB) over HTTPS from its published release location. The file is checked against a known SHA-256 checksum before it is used. No part of your document is included in that request.
Printing and sharing are not network features: they hand the current PDF to your operating system's own print or share sheet, and only after you ask for it. Where the file goes from there is governed by the destination you pick.
04 Device permissions
- Camera — used only while you are scanning a document with the in-app scanner. QPdf does not access the camera at any other time.
- Photos / files — used only when you choose images to turn into a PDF, or pick a PDF to open. QPdf sees only the items you select.
You can decline or revoke either permission in your system settings. The rest of the app continues to work.
05 Data stored on your device
Two small pieces of state are kept locally in QPdf's private app storage. Neither leaves your device.
- Recent documents. For up to 12 files, QPdf remembers the file location, display name, a stable identifier and when you last opened it — so the list on the home screen works. It does not store document contents.
- Crash recovery. While you have unsaved changes, QPdf keeps a recovery journal so your work survives a crash or a force-quit. It is deleted as soon as you save, export or discard those changes.
Uninstalling QPdf removes both. Your PDFs are your own files in your own storage; QPdf never deletes them, and removing the app does not touch them.
06 Children
QPdf is a general-purpose productivity tool. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
07 Your rights
Rights such as access, correction, deletion and portability apply to personal data held by a company. QPdf holds none: there is nothing for us to disclose, correct, export or erase, because nothing ever reaches us. To remove the local data described above, delete the app.
08 Changes to this policy
If QPdf's data practices change — for example if a future version adds an optional online feature — this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
